CCLA, as part of its Prison Pandemic Partnership Project, is helping to track the spread of COVID-19 behind bars. Canada’s provincial and federal prisons recently passed the 5,000-case mark, with at least 4,000 prisoners and 1,100 staff members having contracted the coronavirus by the end of January. The latest analysis of the data shows that close to 98% (1,143 out of 1,168) of male prisoners in CSC penitentiaries infected with the coronavirus were imprisoned in medium-security units at the time of detection.
