On October 2, 2025, Shakir Rahim Director of the Criminal Justice Program, testified before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights about the bail system.

He highlighted that bail is the safeguard of liberty for the innocent, the long-term increase of people denied bail, poor conditions in provincial jails, the need for data collection, and the current decline of offences like break-and-enter and motor vehicle theft.
