Yesterday, CCLA joined with a coalition of organizations to again call on the Canadian government to do more to protect prisoners from the COVID-19 virus.

Since December, we have seen more COVID-19 cases inside prisons than in the preceding eight months and infection rates for prisoners are staggeringly higher than the infection rate in Canada. It is evident that whatever actions that have been taken thus far to protect prisoners, staff, and surrounding communities have been insufficient.

The national coalition of organizations invested in the rights of incarcerated people in Canada is calling on the Minister of Public Safety, the Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Canada, and the Chairperson of the Parole Board of Canada to act swiftly to protect prisoners against COVID-19.
