Aujourd'hui, l'ACLC compara\u00eet devant la Cour supr\u00eame en\u00a0Frank c. Canada\u00a0<\/em>d\u00e9fendre le droit fondamental de tous les citoyens canadiens de voter lors d'une \u00e9lection f\u00e9d\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n

La\u00a0Franc\u00a0<\/em>l'affaire conteste les dispositions de la\u00a0Loi \u00e9lectorale du Canada\u00a0<\/em>qui interdit \u00e0 certains citoyens canadiens non-r\u00e9sidents de voter aux \u00e9lections f\u00e9d\u00e9rales. L'ACLC est intervenue dans cette importante affaire pour faire valoir que l'interdiction de voter est contraire \u00e0 la valeur d'\u00e9galit\u00e9 qui sous-tend la\u00a0chartes\u00a0<\/em>droit de vote. La l\u00e9gislation en l'esp\u00e8ce cr\u00e9e un r\u00e9gime en vertu duquel une cat\u00e9gorie enti\u00e8re d'environ 1,4 million de Canadiens est trait\u00e9e diff\u00e9remment et injustement en fonction d'une caract\u00e9ristique personnelle \u2014 le lieu de r\u00e9sidence. L'interdiction de voter prive les Canadiens non-r\u00e9sidents de leur autonomie personnelle et de leur autod\u00e9termination et cr\u00e9e une cat\u00e9gorie de citoyens de \u00ab seconde classe \u00bb. Une diff\u00e9rence de lieu de r\u00e9sidence ne peut tout simplement pas justifier de priver des individus de leur droit d'\u00eatre des citoyens canadiens \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re et \u00e9gaux.<\/p>\n
