Au lieu de reconsid\u00e9rer ou de fournir une d\u00e9fense solide pour le changement de politique, l'Universit\u00e9 de l'Alberta est all\u00e9e de l'avant avec cette d\u00e9cision malavis\u00e9e et qui annule les droits.<\/p>\n<p>\"Nous condamnons fermement la d\u00e9cision du Conseil des gouverneurs de l'Universit\u00e9 de l'Alberta d'\u00e9liminer les engagements explicites en mati\u00e8re d'\u00e9quit\u00e9, de diversit\u00e9 et d'inclusion (EDI) de la politique de recrutement et d'embauche de l'universit\u00e9\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Harini Sivalingam, directrice de l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 \u00e0 l'ACLC. Cette d\u00e9cision porte atteinte \u00e0 l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 r\u00e9elle et risque d'affaiblir les protections contre la discrimination syst\u00e9mique dans l'emploi universitaire\".<\/p>\n<p>Les initiatives d'\u00e9quit\u00e9 ne sont pas ill\u00e9gales ou pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentielles - elles constituent un \u00e9l\u00e9ment reconnu et prot\u00e9g\u00e9 du cadre des droits de la personne au Canada. L'\u00e9limination des engagements de l'IDE dans l'embauche risque de miner la capacit\u00e9 de l'Universit\u00e9 \u00e0 assurer une embauche juste et inclusive et envoie un message erron\u00e9 quant \u00e0 l'engagement de l'Universit\u00e9 envers l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 et l'inclusion. Agir ainsi sans aucune preuve de l'existence d'un probl\u00e8me \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre ou d'une quelconque analyse de rentabilisation, c'est se plier \u00e0 une influence ext\u00e9rieure.<\/p>\n<p>\"Cette d\u00e9cision n'est pas simplement administrative\", a ajout\u00e9 Howard Sapers, directeur ex\u00e9cutif de l'ACLC. \"Il s'agit d'une d\u00e9claration sur la fa\u00e7on dont l'Universit\u00e9 sous-estime l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 et l'\u00e9quit\u00e9, ainsi que ses obligations en vertu de la loi canadienne sur les droits de l'homme. Les institutions publiques doivent rester fermement engag\u00e9es \u00e0 faire progresser l'\u00e9galit\u00e9 r\u00e9elle au lieu de l'\u00e9roder\"<\/p>\n<p>La Charte canadienne des droits et libert\u00e9s et l'Alberta Human Rights Act prot\u00e8gent explicitement les programmes con\u00e7us pour rem\u00e9dier aux d\u00e9savantages historiques et \u00e0 la discrimination syst\u00e9mique. En tant qu'\u00e9tablissement public exer\u00e7ant une autorit\u00e9 statutaire, l'Universit\u00e9 de l'Alberta doit agir d'une mani\u00e8re compatible avec les principes des droits de l'homme et les valeurs de la Charte.<\/p>\n<p>L'ACLC demande instamment \u00e0 l'Universit\u00e9 de reconsid\u00e9rer cette d\u00e9cision.
