CCLA Gala featuring Edward Snowden

Former U.S. intelligence officer turned whistleblower Edward Snowden is this year’s special guest speaker and honouree at the CCLA’s annual gala. He’ll be joining us via a live link from Russia as part of the evening in which we celebrate civil liberties and human rights activists, toasting the achievements of remarkable Canadians.

On April 27, 2017, we will celebrate extraordinary Canadians from all walks of life — film, sports, journalism, music, business, law, activism, literature, and more. This year’s gala fundraiser honourees are:

Excellence in the arts: Katherine Govier, Jim Bronskill, Patricia Gagic, Ben Makuch, and Margie Wolfe

Excellence in public engagement: Roberta Bondar, Craig Forcese, Kent Roach, Roberto Martella

Excellence in advocacy: Shelagh Day, Linda Bertoldi, Frances Waithe, Mary Spencer, Irwin Cotler

Excellence in law: Lisa Borsook, Dennis Edney, Yavar Hameed, Bill Bogart, Jasmine Akbarali

Special recoginition: Ursula Franklin

Proceeds from the evening will support Canadian Civil Liberties Education Trust (CCLET) and CCLA’s work in defending and upholding civil liberties in Canada.
