CCLA Seeks Meeting with Minister of Justice on National Standards for Tasers

In early January 2010, then federal Minister of Public Safety, Peter Van Loan, announced that the federal and provincial governments are working together to develop national standards for the use of Tasers by police.  This is a significant step towards harmonizing the current patchwork of policies used by different Canadian police services. As such, it is of great importance at this critical juncture to make sure that the right Taser standards are developed and implemented. To ensure that its views on Taser issues are considered in this process, the CCLA has requested a meeting with the federal Minister of Public Safety, Vic Toews, to discuss this important public issue.
