Ontario opens Office of the Independent Police Review Director

OIPRDlogoThe culmination of a four-year process, Ontario’s Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) opened its doors on Monday. Headed by Gerry McNeilly, the former head of Legal Aid Manitoba, the agency is staffed entirely by civilians, and is responsible for responding to public complaints into police conduct. The OIPRD has the power to order and review investigations into allegations of officer misconduct.
